For some great Afirkaans alternative cool music, try the Abelarde Sanction in Brixton. Burgers and casseroles are on the menu also. In the suburb of Kensington, you might try the Big Easy bar, which will have live local music most nights of the week. In Bryanston you might want to check out the Tanz Cafe, which is a mix of cultures between Argentina and Europe. The music is very passionate and you can learn to tango on its large dance floor. The menu is very unique and impressive and the atmosphere is very European. Morgan's Cat Bar is also a lively venue that is worth calling in for a drink. Nightclubs like the FHS Flyhouse are very cool and funky that has lots of dance floors for some great techno, trance and more soul music. If trance is your favourite dance, bring your dancing shoes to the Horror Cafe, which is opposite the Electric Workshop that is right beside the Market Theatre Complex. Music plays a big part in Johannesburg. The Blues Room at Village Walk has some great jazz bands. The Kippies Jazz International at the Market Theatre Complex is also very popular. The posh Jabulanis bar at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank has also great jazz music at weekends. If you like classical music, make your way to the Witwatersrand University, where there is always recitals going on at the Wets Great Hall most Sunday afternoons. Also at the Civic Theatre and the Linder Auditorium, one can listen to classical music. For the bigger live music venues, the Johannesburg Stadium would stage some great international rock stars during the year. The big casino complex at Carnival City also stages live performances by international stars every month. Brian Ferry performed recently and was excellent. |
