The Lemon Herb chicken at the Butcher Shop and Grill in Sandtown Square is considered the best in the city, while the Mastrantonio restaurant has some great Italian dishes on offer as well as a great atmosphere to enjoy the evening in style. Although steakhouses are not as popular as they use to be, burger joints are everywhere. There are also some great quality restaurants like the Carnivore Restaurant, where you will get freshly ground top range beef or a piece of fillet to keep you full. The Singing Fig restaurant in Norwood serves the best Oxtail in town. But also famous in this great restaurant is the duck dishes, which serve some huge portions in a great atmosphere of laughter and fun. For some great French cuisine, try the Ile De France Randburg, which has won many awards for its fine food. It is rather pricey but the quality is great. Le Canard in Sandton is also very popular. Gautengs multi cultural environment has resulted in some great traditional restaurants that would serve up great local dishes like African phutu, which is maize meal porridge, or Afrikaner potjiekos, which is a fine stew. Wandis in Soweto is also very popular spot, as well as Gramadoelas in the Market Theatre district. The News Cafe in Rivonia offers a great brunch, while the many places selling breakfast will serve you up a plate of eggs and slap chips to set you up for the day. |
